FAQs

Life happens with work throwing up curve balls and emergencies coming up. We ask that you endeavour to make as many of the weeks as possible so that you get the most out of the course but it is absolutely fine if this is not possible. You’ll need to contact Franky Kemp on the form below or call her if you’re:

  • Running late or
  • Can’t attend a lesson

This allows for class activities to be based around attendees without disruption.

ask that you inform the teacher and fellow students of your absence with as much notice as possible so that things can be worked around and not be too disrupted.

We cannot take money off fees for missed weeks. We have deliberately kept fees as low as possible so that any missed weeks won’t have too much of an impact. All venues, teachers and running costs still have to be paid regardless of absences.

The aim is that you’ll love the course but of course everybody is different. If you come along on the first day and don’t enjoy it, as long as you inform me in writing within 24 hours of that lesson, you will get a refund minus the cost of the class you attended. This applies to the first class only. For subsequent classes, there’s no refund if you decide it’s not for you.

I’ve kept the fees as low as possible in the hope that most people will pay upfront. However, in certain circumstances, I can arrange for an instalment policy and if this is a deciding factor as to whether you join  or not then of course please do get in touch. Please e-mail hello@frankiekemp.com and I can set up a plan. Of course, if an installment policy is agreed all fees for the term will need to be paid regardless of absences or a decision to leave.

Behaviour Policy

Actuate aims to help creativity blossom through the connection that drama provides.

The aim is to provide a fun, friendly, encouraging, trusting, safe and supportive environment where people can enjoy learning and
being with others.

The environment is for adults regardless of gender, ethnic background, physical ability, cultural views, sexual orientation, religion
and nationality.  All I ask is the following to help create a supportive and collaborative atmosphere:

  • Support each other, on stage and off stage.
  • Collaborate with your scene partner, unless it is unsafe or demeaning to do so.
  • Respect physical boundaries and don’t do anything physically dangerous to yourself or your scene partner.
  • Respect sexual boundaries, on and off stage.
  • Difficult subject matter in scenes is to be treated with full emotional intelligence, and your teacher is there to help you with this.
  • Help us to create an environment free from harassment, on and off stage.
  • Please no drug use or drinking before classes.

Teachers and students are asked to respect this at all times.

It also helps us to run a fun workshop if you can turn up on time and not use mobile phones in workshops.

Crisis Communications

The code of conduct covers behaviour at Actuate courses and electronic communications from Frankie Kemp or any Actuate email managed by us directly.

  • No behaviour will be tolerated in Actuate workshops which is prejudiced, whether based on race, age, sex and gender, sexuality, disability or any other category, protected or otherwise.
  • To allow concerns to be raised, we have an anonymous reporting form on the website (see below) to report behaviour that concerns them.
  • No action of any kind will be taken without the explicit permission of the reportee.
  • Frankie Kemp, Director of Actuate, will be responsible for arranging a meeting with those people involved with the aim of reaching an outcome that we can all live with.
  • These meetings will always seek to resolve the issue first without foregoing the course.  Not everyone is aware of what they’re doing or the impact it has and that may apply to us as well as you.
  • There is no promise of refunds for difficult behaviour as this is treated on a case by case basis, if the code of conduct has been breached.

Use the anonymous form below or call me on 07981 242095.  If you’ve any suggestions for improvements on the policies, then please contact me at hello@frankiekemp.com
